DevReach - Microsoft technologies at your reach

And the Winner Is ...

“I won the big prize at DevReach 2007 – a cool GARELLI Scooter!

My name is Angel Gavrilov and I work and live in Bourgas, Bulgaria. I am currently developing software and software solutions, based on Windows technologies - C#, .NET, ASP.NET, C++, MFC. The next good thing at DevReach2007, besides the fact that I won the GARELLI scooter, was the conference itself. I have been to several similar events in different countries, and I would frankly say that DevReach2007 was the best conference I have ever attended. The speakers were so great I can barely find the right epithets. There is hardly any former event of such a large scale organized in Bulgaria and the region where software developers met and shared their experience, and benefited from the expertise of software industry gurus like Dino Esposito, Miguel Castro and all other speakers. The only thing I did not like was that the conference was only 2 days, but the good news is that DevReach 2008 is on its way!”

DevReach 2007 - The Party

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

With DevReach 2007 in the rearview mirror, it is time to sit back and reflect on some of the great times we had at this year's premier Eastern Europe .NET conference. And there's no better place to look than the DevReach 2007 VIP Party to find a lifetime's - well perhaps a night's - worth of good times. The VIP Party was held after the conference completed on Tuesday and was open to all VIP ticket holders and DevReach speakers. There was food, drink, good music, and plenty of good company to help wind down after an intense two days of learning and speaking. It was a great party to cap off a great conference.

If you weren't able to attend the party, or if you were at the party and just can't quite remember what happened, don't miss the online gallery of photos from the event. Pictures alone can't capture the fun that was had at this year's party, though, so definitely make plans to attend DevReach 2008 as a VIP if you missed it. Until then, enjoy the pictures and go easy on the rakia.

The rest of the pictures form the party, as well as photos from the conference itself, will be available at the DevReach 2007 Gallery, expected by Oct 17. Information about the link to the DevReach 2007 Gallery will be provided in the News section of the website. Do not miss it!

DevReach 2007 almost sold out

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Unlike last year when the conference did not sell out, this year registrations are going at full speed and, based on yesterday's data, we have just 16 passes available before we reach our 2007 target audience of 350 people. Apart from the increase in attendees this year, it's also great to see a rising number of international attendees - people from over 10 other European countries will attend DevReach and we are very happy that the event is shaping up as a true regional event for Microsoft developers.

So far, so good. See you all on Monday!

Prizes, prizes, prizes

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

In addition to the great content and networking opportunities, industry conferences also present a lot of fun. You get the parties, you get the beer, you get the swag and you get a chance to win some cool prizes. Last year we managed to secure some great prizes an XBOX 360 and a trip to Microsoft’s Research Labs.

Just as in software development, every iteration has to be better than the previous so we tried to apply the same approach to the prizes for DevReach 2007. Apart from offering more stuff, which means every DevReach 2007 attendee has a greater chance to win, we did get creative about the grand prize:) Here’s the breakdown:

Prize #1: Free pass to TechEd Developers in Barcelona Who can win it: everyone who makes an "Early Bird" registration is entered into a drawing for the pass. Thank you, Microsoft! It’s going to be a good chance for the winner of the pass to compare DevReach and TechEd and get an idea of where we, the organizers, want to take this event in the future.

Prize #2:
3 digital cameras (courtesy of Plesio)
Who can win: everyone who fills in the session feedback forms can win one of the three 7MP cameras and catch all the action of DevReach 2008 in pictures.

Prize #3: Microsoft Zune
Who can win: all DevReach 2007 attendees will have a chance to win the cool Microsoft gadget that hit the streets in 2007.

Prize #4:
Here’s the big one - the grand prize is a scooter!
Who can win: all attendees with a VIP pass will have a chance to win a brand new scooter! The scooter is the perfect way to get to work, spend less time in traffic congestion and get home faster. Just to make things more visual, here’s a couple of pictures of the two-wheel beauty:

Wish all of you luck! And don’t forget that the"Early Bird" registration ends on the 15th of September.

Using the Wii Remote to Enhance User Interfaces?

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

Have you heard about Nintendo Wii? It's one of the greatest and most novel gaming systems on the market. While it may not have the graphic richness of XBOX 360 or Sony PS3, it does offer a very fun gaming experience through the Wii remote control. Just to give you an idea about the Wii remote, here's an excerpt from the site:

"Nintendo fused the familiarity of a remote control with the sophistication of motion-sensing technology to come up with an input device for the ages!

Sporting the size of a traditional remote control, the wireless Wii Remote is a multifunctional device that is limited only by the game designer's imagination. In a tennis game, it serves as your racket you swing with your arm. In a driving game, it serves as your steering wheel. For first-person shooters, the Wii Remote acts as your weapon that you point at an enemy. The list of potential uses goes on and on.

In addition to its pointing and motion-sensing abilities, the Wii Remote also includes a speaker, rumble feature and expansion port for additional input devices, such as the Nunchuk."

While it might not immediately come close to mind, it seems that the Wii remote can also be used to enhance user interfaces of business applications. Chad Hower just confirmed that he will make a practical demonstration how to use .NET for the purpose! You can find more information here: http://www.devreach.com/Event/Sessions.aspx#hall3_4

DevReach 2007 session levels

Monday, August 27, 2007

Despite the success of last year's event, many DevReach attendees noted one thing that was not done right - we did not provide an idea of the technical level of the sessions and as a result people that expected introductory material got blown away with highly technical content and, vice versa, people who wanted advanced content had to deal with introductory material.

This year, we will provide a Level for each session in the schedule and you will be able to choose the ones that reflect best your needs. We have used the following session descriptions as a base (courtesy of MSDN Events):

Level 100 - The technical level of introductory and overview material. Assumes little or no expertise with topic and covers topic concepts, functions, features, benefits.

Level 200 - The technical level of intermediate material. Assumes 100 level knowledge and provides specific drill down into topic.

Level 300 - The technical level of advanced material. Assumes 200-level knowledge and in-depth understanding of features in a real-world environment and strong coding skills. Provides a detailed technical overview of a subset of product/technology features, covering architecture, performance, migration, deployment, and development.

Level 400 - The technical level of expert material. Assumes a deep level of technical knowledge and experience and a detailed, thorough understanding of topic. Provides expert-to-expert interaction and coverage of specialized topics.

Our overall goal for DevReach 2007 is to minimize the number of Level 100 and Level 200 sessions, have a bunch of Level 400 sessions and focus mostly on Level 300 content as last year it had the best attendance and received highest scores.

The new DevReach 2007 site is up

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

The brand new DevReach 2007 event site is up and running!

While we are still working on finalizing the schedule and are waiting for a few speaker bios, the available content can give you a good idea of this year's topics, speakers and overall direction. We're very happy that some of the most popular speakers in the .NET community will be visiting us and will present great new content. Some of the sessions will even contain material that will be demonstrated at DevReach for the first time.

In addition to providing more information about the event, this year we've also done a much better job in handling the registration and payment process. We have provided clear instructions for the people who want to get an invoice and pay via a bank transfer. We have also added support for ePay transactions and you can now use the convenience of online payments to purchase an event pass with just a few clicks. As soon as you make the payment, you will get a confirmation e-mail that will provide information how to get to the event, how to claim your attendee badge, when to expect the draws for the prizes and other essential details.

Welcome to the DevReach blogs

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Hi all,

Welcome to the DevReach blogs. In addition to the News section, which hosts a good deal of information about the conference in a somewhat formal way, we thought it would be nice to reach out to you in a more informal way and chat about the day-to-day event affairs. Apart from using the blogs to keep you posted on schedule changes, speakers, logistics, etc. we plan to discuss things that are of greater interest for you. We'd be happy to blog about anything for which you'd like to get more coverage so feel free to add a comment to this post with your questions.
